Information on Waste Prevention and Management of Waste Batteries

In accordance with Article 74(1)(a) – (f) of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 concerning batteries and waste batteries, the following information is provided to end-users and distributors.
  • Use batteries only for their intended purpose and in accordance with the equipment manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Store unused batteries in a cool, dry place and avoid exposure to excessive heat, moisture or direct sunlight.
  • Remove batteries from equipment that will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage and unnecessary discharge.
  • Do not mix new and used batteries or batteries of different types, brands or capacities.
  • This battery is non-rechargeable. Do not attempt to recharge it.
  • Replace batteries only when necessary in order to maximise their useful life and reduce battery waste.
  • Waste batteries must be collected separately from other waste.
  • Do not dispose of used batteries with unsorted municipal or household waste.
  • Separate collection enables the proper treatment and recycling of waste batteries and helps recover valuable materials.
  • Used batteries should be returned to appropriate battery collection points, participating retailers, municipal collection facilities or other authorised collection systems.
  • End-users should use the battery take-back and separate collection systems available in their country.
  • Collected waste batteries are transferred to authorised treatment and recycling facilities where they are processed in accordance with applicable waste and environmental legislation.
  • Proper collection and recycling allow materials such as zinc, manganese and steel to be recovered, where technically feasible.
  • Do not open, crush, puncture, dismantle, short-circuit or burn batteries.
  • Do not attempt to recharge this non-rechargeable alkaline battery.
  • Avoid contact with leaking battery contents.
  • Handle damaged or leaking batteries carefully and keep them away from children.
  • Prevent battery terminals from coming into contact with metal objects in order to avoid short circuits.
  • In case of contact with leaked electrolyte, rinse the affected area thoroughly with water and seek medical advice if necessary.

Separate collection symbol (crossed-out wheeled bin):

The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol indicates that the battery must not be disposed of with unsorted municipal or household waste. It must be collected separately and delivered to an appropriate collection or recycling point.

Chemical symbols (Hg, Cd and Pb):

Where applicable under Article 13 of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, the symbols Hg, Cd or Pb indicate that the battery contains mercury, cadmium or lead above the respective regulatory thresholds.

Battery identification and other markings:

Other labels and markings provided on the battery, packaging or accompanying documentation give information such as battery type, chemistry, manufacturer identification and other information required under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542.

  • Improper disposal or handling of waste batteries may result in the release of battery constituents into the environment.
  • Alkaline batteries contain materials including zinc, manganese compounds and alkaline electrolyte.
  • Damaged or leaking batteries may release corrosive alkaline electrolyte, which can cause irritation or chemical burns upon contact with skin or eyes.
  • Improper disposal may contribute to contamination of soil or water and may prevent valuable materials from being recovered.
  • Separate collection and proper recycling reduce potential risks to human health and the environment and support the recovery of valuable materials.
